Long-time pooling staff have been retiring in recent years, leaving a gaping hole in the pooling industry at a time when recruitment is more difficult than ever. In this session, panelists from CIRMA and CIS Oregon will share their experiences and approaches to succession planning, recruiting, internships, onboarding, and training. Discussion will include how they implemented solutions at their pools such as have retiring staff work alongside new employees to train them; building relationships with colleges and universities; and branding public entity pooling as a desirable career for young people entering the workforce. NLC-RISC will also share resources, including a new roundtable designed for members to work together to address HR issues that are critical for the future of pools.
